The focus of TanTou’s performances is the creation of transformative encounters.

In the process of creating our work, we play with the mechanisms and the patterns of human interaction as well as on the language of emotional, rational and sensual responses.

We facilitate interactions where performers and visitors alike can be receptive and responsive to each other, creating a non-fictional universe based on authenticity.

In our performances, every single member of the audience undertakes their own journey, a very personal experience, different from anybody else’s.

During the workshop, every participant will create their own Human Specific performance, (15-20 minutes long) with the support of our guides. These performances will then be presented for an invited audience at the end of the workshop.

Creating Transformative Encounters is a series of workshops in Participatory and Human Specific Performance open to English-speaking participants from all countries. The workshop is addressed to artists and students within performance, acting, dance, music, visual arts, theatre production, and can be of inspiration the process of developing new participatory artistic material. Maybe a performance that you are already working on? But also therapists, teachers, and others with an interest in close encounters between individuals, can benefit from this work.

We will explore interactivity, participation and sincere intimacy in an artistic contest in different settings, while creating performative, interactions and rituals between participating audience and performers.

Working individually, in pairs or in small groups, the participants will research an artistic language that speaks directly to the senses and replaces fiction with true “here and now” presence.

We will investigate many different forms of sincere and non-fictional communication, which all can activate strong emotional and sensorial responses. The boundaries of artistic intimacy between strangers will be challenged, evoking authentic, receptive and trusting modalities of participation.

Some of the specific themes and exercises will therefore be connected with:

  • The creation of a sensorial universe.

  • Devising and guiding participatory experiences.

  • The creation of true interpersonal connections, within a set frame of a performative universe.

  • Exploring the borders of emotional and intellectual interaction.

  • Using non-traditional spaces for framing experiences with journey-like structures.

  • Developing personal, biographical material outside of the typical storytelling frames.

  • Developing different forms of open dramaturgies and labyrinth-like performance structures.

  • Creation of small interactive group dramaturgies.

  • Risk taking: the performer in the double role as guide and participant at the same time

  • Exploring the boundaries of physical interaction with a participating audience.

  • Creating a non-invasive environment for intimate communication in artistic work.
